Friday Flower: Petunia
The name of the flower comes from the French word for tobacco, “petun.”
Petunias make great floral ground cover due to their long flowering period and low-maintenance nature. Botanically they are closely related to tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, deadly nightshades, and chili peppers. They come in every color of the rainbow, including some varieties with star patterns, vein patterns, and solids.
Petunias are very susceptible to blight and rot due to moisture retained on the leaves and flowers, so take care when watering. Watch out for pesky slugs and aphids. Originally native to South America, Petunias were brought to Europe for the first time in 1823.
And finally, here’s a cool time lapse video of a blooming Petunia:
Other Famous Petunias include:
Porky the Pig’s girlfriend, Petunia Pig.
Petunia the goose, a children’s book.

Bloomin’ Potluck
We’re very proud of this recent tradition, because we feel it brings all of our employees gathered together in one confined space where everybody is happy — the kitchen. A bi-weekly event to our company, every other Friday we host a different themed potluck plentiful with all kinds of delicious food. This week’s theme was everything and anything Asian. Some people brought homemade Indian cuisine, while others kept with the traditional Asian gourmet. Either way, we all loved it and ate it all up by day’s end. As you can see from the smiles on our faces, we’re pretty much satisfied with our full bellies! Mmmmm mmmmm good…
