As hopefully many of you know, Bloomin is a certified B-corporation. We recently renewed our certification and want to share some more insight as to what this means. A great resource is the non-profit’s website www.bcorporation.net. Below are the highlights:
B Corporations are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab that have met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. B Corps actively seek to improve standards for company stakeholders including: workers, suppliers, community, customers and the environment. That is still a mouthful; basically, we want to be a business that works for the good of the environment and remain socially responsible. We underwent a lot of paperwork to prove we are not green-washing when we make the claim that we are eco-friendly. We gave a tour of our facility to the B-lab. A few employees had an interview with them to share our experience within the company. It is a long and tedious process but one we find worthwhile to stand out from the rest.
So what makes us certifiable? Our facility located in Boulder, CO is powered by a 30kW solar power system; Enough for all our energy needs and more. We aim to reduce paper waste, increase environmental awareness, and beautify the community by supplying hand-crafted seed paper to both end consumers and businesses. Our goal is to bring awareness to waste and find new ways to re-purpose and cultivate products instead of tossing them in the land fill. Please check out our page HERE on the B-Corp website.
There are currently 2,504 B corporations in over 50 countries and 130 industries. Some names you may recognize include Patagonia, Once Upon a Farm, Davines, Ben & Jerry’s, and so many more. Find the entire list HERE. Each company hoping to become a B Corp must score at least at least 82 points on a rigorous impact assessment proctored by B Labs in order to become certified; Bloomin scored 92 this year.
We are proud to be a part of this community. We continue to move forward in finding new ways to take care of Mother Earth. Learning about B corps and what we are about is a great selling point to your customers as a way to be sustainable and eco-friendly in the promotional product industry.
